Alain Johns is a gunslinger of Gilead, like those of his ka-tet -- Roland Deschain, Cuthbert Allgood, and Jamie DeCurry. Or, rather, he was. When Gilead fell slowly, in civil war and flames, he stood with its defenders through the long years of battle, as the other gunslingers fell one by one. At the last, at Jericho Hill, there were only three left: Cuthbert, Roland, and Alain. After that battle, there was only Roland, the last remnant of Gilead-That-Was.

Alain comes to the bar straight from his death at Jericho Hill. He's twenty-four years old, a tall man with a round face and light hair. He is quiet and thoughtful, which sometimes leads people who don't know him well to think he's not especially bright. They're quite wrong about that, though he is generally perfectly happy to let them continue to underestimate him so. Alain has the touch -- a sort of blend of telepathy and empathy -- quite strongly, and is deeply intuitive at times.

His clothes will probably put characters who would recognize such in mind of cowboy clothes -- jeans, old boots, chambray shirt. Strapped around his waist are two heavy revolvers with sandalwood grips, the guns of his father. They are by far his most valued possession, and he is almost never without them.
